Waiting for True AI: The Illusion of Progress in a Capitalist Tech Race
One of the most amusing trends I’ve noticed is the proliferation of a suite of “AI” products and services—applications built on top of AI models trained by artificial intelligence. This is particularly interesting because it reflects the cat-and-mouse game of a capitalist society prioritizing economic growth over genuine technological advancement. In essence, these applications, along with the time spent mastering them, are a waste of resources. A truly intelligent AI system should be capable of performing all the functions of these fragmented systems. Those with access to the fully trained models—designed to continuously learn and develop—already understand this truth.
I bring this up because some may think I’m moving too slowly. The reality is that I’m waiting for the release of a genuinely intelligent AI system. While those with early access might believe they have the upper hand, as history has shown with the internet and the development of AI itself, these milestones are not the endgame. What truly matters is how the technology is used.
That said, I don’t believe those currently developing AI are capable of pushing it to its fullest potential. While I’m not particularly hopeful, I remain optimistic. If I’m proven right, I’ll seize the opportunity to take the reins and innovate with what’s available. Let’s see how it unfolds.
